Research Project “Consumer Protection and Consumer Socialization of Refugees” at the chair of Prof Sigrid Baringhorst

Refugees search for orientation in their role as consumers. They have different images of consumer needs and consumer rights that can lead to self-destructive behaviour such as the signing of unnecessary assurances or disadvantageous contracts. The study examines the specific consumer needs of refugees as well as their information demand and need for counselling against the background of existing tools of consumer protection. The project with a span of three years is financed by the Federal Land of North-Rhine Westphalia in the framework of a line of funding called “Research about Escape and Integration”. The research, which widens the perspective of integration by the aspect of economic participation, is led by Dr Witterhold.
