Rückblick 05.12.2025 From Siegen to Success – International Alumni Event | FIT: Soft Skills & Employability

Am 5. Dezember kamen internationale Studierende zur Alumni-Veranstaltung „From Siegen to Success“ zusammen, um sich mit ehemaligen internationalen Studierenden zu vernetzen und wertvolle Einblicke in das Studium, das Leben sowie den Aufbau einer Karriere in Deutschland zu gewinnen.
Diese inspirierende Veranstaltung brachte aktuelle Studierende und Alumni zusammen, die bereit waren, ihre persönlichen Erfahrungen, praktischen Tipps und beruflichen Werdegänge zu teilen. Dadurch entstand ein offener Raum für Austausch, Lernen und gegenseitige Inspiration.

Highlights:

✅ Einblicke von internationalen Alumni:
Studierende erhielten aus erster Hand Erfahrungsberichte über die Ankunft in Deutschland, die Anpassung an eine neue Kultur sowie die Orientierung im Alltag als internationale Studierende an der Universität Siegen.

✅Erfolgsstrategien für das Studium:
Alumni vermittelten praxisnahe Ratschläge zum Umgang mit akademischen Anforderungen, zur Nutzung geeigneter Unterstützungsangebote sowie zum erfolgreichen Bestehen im deutschen Hochschulsystem.

✅ Karrierewege in Deutschland:
Die Teilnehmenden gewannen ein fundiertes Verständnis dafür, wie sie die Jobsuche strategisch angehen, berufliche Möglichkeiten erschließen und gezielte Schritte in Richtung einer Karriere in Deutschland nach dem Studienabschluss unternehmen können.

✅ Persönliche Erfahrungsberichte & realitätsnahe Orientierung:
Die Vortragenden berichteten offen über die Herausforderungen, denen sie begegnet sind, sowie über die Chancen, die zu ihrer persönlichen und beruflichen Entwicklung beigetragen haben. Dadurch erhielten die Studierenden sowohl Motivation als auch konkrete, umsetzbare Handlungsempfehlungen.

✅ Networking-Session:
Im Anschluss an die Vorträge nahmen die Studierenden an einer informellen Networking-Runde mit den Alumni teil. Dies bot die Gelegenheit, Fragen zu stellen, Erfahrungen auszutauschen und wertvolle Kontakte zu knüpfen – begleitet von leichten Erfrischungen.

Zum Abschluss der Veranstaltung verließen die Studierenden diese motiviert und besser darauf vorbereitet, ihren akademischen und beruflichen Weg in Deutschland aktiv zu gestalten – gestützt auf die realen Erfahrungen derjenigen, die sich einst in einer ähnlichen Situation befanden.

Insgesamt bot „From Siegen to Success“ internationalen Studierenden eine bereichernde Gelegenheit, von Alumni als Vorbildern zu lernen, ihr Netzwerk auszubauen und Selbstvertrauen für ihre nächsten Schritte zu gewinnen – sei es beim Einleben in Siegen oder bei der Vorbereitung auf ihre zukünftige Karriere.

Recap: 12.12. Intercultural Session: Smart Living in Germany (and) a piece of Cake FIT: Welcome & Orientation

On December 12, 2025, international students took part in the interactive session “Smart Living in Germany (and a Piece of Cake)” as part of the FIT: Welcome & Orientation program.

The session focused on helping participants navigate everyday life in Germany more easily, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Through practical input, discussion, and shared experiences, students gained valuable insights into local habits, cultural norms, and strategies for managing daily challenges in a new environment.

Highlights of the session:

✅ Practical tips for organizing everyday life in Germany

✅ Smart strategies for adapting to new cultural norms and expectations

✅ Insights into housing, shared living, and local habits

✅ Learning how to manage expenses and make the most of student life

✅ Experiencing the German tradition of coffee and cake in a social setting

Participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences, ask questions, and reflect on their own adjustment process. The session created a supportive environment that helped students feel more confident and better prepared for daily life in Germany.

Recap 01.12. Workshop: The Dos and Don’ts of Personal Branding on LinkedIn and XING | FIT: Soft Skills & Employability

On December 1st, 2025, participants gathered for a engaging workshop focused on personal branding, specifically how to craft an impactful and professional profile on LinkedIn and XING. The session was designed to provide students with practical insights and strategies for leveraging these platforms to enhance their online presence and boost career prospects.

Facilitated by expert social media strategist Lisa Müller, the workshop combined expert advice with hands-on activities, guiding students through the essential steps of creating and optimizing their personal brand on professional networking sites.

Highlights included:

Optimizing LinkedIn and XING profiles: Participants learned how to improve their profile photos, headlines, and summaries to better highlight their skills and achievements.
Building and expanding a professional network: The session emphasized strategies for connecting with the right people and maintaining meaningful relationships.
Sharing the right content: Insights were given on what types of posts, articles, and interactions help establish credibility without being overly promotional.
Avoiding common personal branding mistakes: Attendees learned what to avoid, such as unprofessional photos or irrelevant content that can damage their reputation.
Maximizing the unique features of  LinkedIn: Practical tips were shared on how to use LinkedIn  effectively based on it’s distinct features and target audience.

Participants put the theory into practice immediately, refining their profiles and identifying specific steps to improve their online presence. By the end of the workshop, attendees left with a clearer understanding of how to brand themselves professionally, an enhanced profile on both platforms, and actionable steps to make a stronger impact in the job market.

Recap: 01.12.-15.12. Self-Study Course Change Competence – Develop the Ability to Cope with Change

From December 1 to December 15, 2025, participants had the opportunity to take part in the self-study course “Change Competence – Navigating Change Effectively”, designed to provide practical knowledge while enabling independent and flexible learning.

Through a combination of structured learning modules, practical exercises, and reflection tasks, participants were able to work through the content at their own pace and apply what they learned directly. The course focused not only on knowledge acquisition but also on the sustainable development of individual competencies.

Highlights of the self-study course:

✅ Flexible, location-independent learning at an individual pace

✅ Practice-oriented tasks for direct application of the content

✅ Strengthening self-organization and independent learning skills

✅ Opportunities for individual reflection and deeper engagement with key topics

✅ Sustainable competence development through self-directed learning

Participants gained valuable experience in self-directed learning and were able to further develop their skills in a targeted way.
The course was offered by the Career Service as part of the FIT project.
