Recap: 12.05.25 Coffee & Connect: German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) | FIT: Career & Networking

On May 12, students gathered for an insightful Coffee & Connect session featuring the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB). Over coffee and cake, participants explored what it means to work in Germany and how trade unions play a key role in supporting employees.

The session was led by Björn Eckert, who opened the event with a presentation on workers’ rights, labor laws, and the role of trade unions in Germany. He provided valuable insights into how unions advocate for fair treatment, empower employees, and promote ethical workplaces—knowledge especially relevant for international students preparing for careers in Germany. He also addressed a key concern for many: the conditions under which international students are allowed to work in Germany, explaining legal limits and what to watch out for.

After the presentation, students enjoyed an open Q&A session over coffee and cake. The relaxed atmosphere made it easy to ask questions, share experiences, and connect with both the speaker and fellow students. Everyone left with a clearer understanding of their rights and feeling better prepared for the German job market.
