Trade Unions
A trade union is an organized group of workers who unite to protect their rights, improve working conditions, and negotiate collectively with employers. Unions advocate for fair wages, job security, safe workplaces, and benefits, representing members in discussions with management. Through collective bargaining, unions can achieve agreements that individuals might not secure alone, empowering workers in various industries.

Kununu is an online platform where employees and applicants can anonymously review companies, sharing insights on work conditions, salaries, and company culture. It helps job seekers make informed career choices by providing real employee experiences. Learning about a company's environment can help individuals find better job satisfaction and align with supportive workplaces.
Probezeit
A "Probezeit," or probationary period, is an initial phase in German employment, usually lasting up to six months. During this time, employers assess a new employee’s fit for the role. Both employee and employer can end the contract with shorter notice, making it easier to transition if expectations aren’t met on either side.
Fixed-Term Contract
A temporary job contract with a specific end date. Often used for projects or short-term needs, these contracts do not guarantee long-term employment. The opposite would be a permanent contract – A job contract with no end date, offering stability and continued employment until one side terminates the contract, often with a longer notice period.
Sozialversicherung
Social Security - Socialversicherungen - is a government program that provides financial protection for individuals. It includes health insurance, pensions, unemployment benefits, and disability coverage. Both employees and employers contribute through taxes. Lohnsteuerklassen
In Germany, the income tax system is divided into six tax classes (Lohnsteuerklassen). These determine the amount of tax deducted from a salary. Tax class depends on factors like marital status, dependents, and whether someone is the sole earner. It affects how much net income an employee receives after tax deductions.
