If you happen to need urgent medical assistance and your doctor is not available, for example on a weekend, you can go to a hospital. If you are unable to get there yourself, you call the national emergency number 112 for free. If it’s not urgent but you can’t wait until your General Practitioner is available, you can contact the Medical Emergency Service. In Siegen you find the emergency surgery at the St. Marien hospital (Kampenstraße 51, 57072 Siegen). The free phone number is 116 117. Your health insurance covers most hospital expenses. If you are admitted to the hospital for stationary treatment (i.e. overnight), then you will pay 10 euros for each day you spend there.
In train stations and on motorways there are emergency phones. You can use them for reporting accidents or calling an ambulance.
